"Without music", someone once said, "life is a journey through a desert". Since our founder -while an apprentice in Vienna- helped built instruments for Ludwig van Beethoven and other famous artists during the years 1813-1819 six generations of the Sauter family have sought to continue this legacy. We hope as you read over the information contained on this homepage that you will see not only the beauty and perfection of a Sauter piano but also be able to hear the joy and music that can be created with it. Piano music is an explosive expression of humanity. It connects everyone, no matter where we are from. After all, helping create that connection is why we build pianos.
Sauter Uprights are the Best according to French Magazine “Pianiste”
September 26th, 2007 by Sauter Europe

Paris, France. The French piano magazine “Pianiste” published an in-depth comparison of the three major German manufacturers of high quality pianos in its April 2007 issue. The test was geared at uprights around 120 cm ( 48′) and Sauter provided its entry model, the Resonance 120, to be examined. The instruments were evaluated in seven categories and descriptevely ranked. The Sauter Resonance 120 superseded its colleagues in six of the seven criterias.

The magazine “Pianiste” described the reasons for Sauter’s highest ranking as follows: “Small details make the difference…Sauter uprights have always caught our attention. There is no need to mention the quality of the manufacturing process and the prestige of the brand….but at such a reasonable price this model mesmerized us due to its musicality and its superior breadth in sound and tone. All sections of the piano are unusually harmonious and provide plush richness of sound. The double repetition (translator’s note: this refers to Sauter’s patented RR action) offers convenience and comfortability and is by far more responsive than other upright pianos. The action of the tested instrument was light and allowed excellent controll in the passages that require pianissimo without hampering its overall responsivess. We appreciate the detailed care of the exterior frame….”. The magazine commended all three instruments and manufacturers for the overall high quality and the value of the instruments.

Anne Le Bozec plays Manuel de Falla
September 26th, 2007 by Sauter Europe

Anne Le Bozec took center stage along with a Sauter Concert Grand 275 at the famous Stuttgarter Liederhalle in performing “Nights in the Gardens of Spain” by Manuel de Falla among other pieces in Stuttgart, Germany. The French pianist who has made a name for herself with interpretations of Schubert was applauded for the sensitivity in which she communicated the symphonic impressions and “felt” her way through the “Klangschichten” (soundspheres) of the evening’s music according to the music critic Wolfgang Teubner.

Manuel de Falla y Matheu, a preeminent Spanish patriot and composer, had created the nocturne relying on Spanish native music and allowing the piano to blend in with the orchestra rather than antagonize it. Anne Le Bozec displayed the needed sensitivity to allow the orchestra to create the finely woven symphonic impressions so critical to the “Nights in the Gardens of Spain”. In an encore presenting Debussy she went to give the audience a further taste of the qualities of the Sauter Concert Grand.

In reference to the Sauter Concert Grand Mrs. Le Bozec told the press: ” The (Sauter) concert grand projects a very light, and yet carrying sound that is especially suited for huge concert halls: all registers balance well without loosing their own color. The action allows for an easy and comfortable performance. This Concert Grand truly belongs in the Beethoven Hall!”

Mr. Anne Le Bozec is a graduate of the National Conservatory of Paris. She is also the winner of several prizes and was the recipient of the “Fondation pour la Vocation” Award which was bestowed on her by the French President Jaques Chirac.

Eugene Mursky chooses Sauter for Chopin Recordings
September 17th, 2007 by Sauter Europe

At the tender age of 13, Eugene Mursky made his first debut performance with the State Symphony Orchestra of Uzbekistan, choosing to play Chopin’s second piano concerto.  However, by that time young Eugene Mursky was already well known in the former Soviet Federation. He had been admitted to the School for Gifted Children at the age of 6 and then was accepted to the Conservatory in Moscow at the age of 12.

With the release of the third volume in his series, Mr. Mursky, has accomplished a large milestone in his goal to record all pieces for piano by F. Chopin. The CD titled “Mursky- F. Chopin edition vol. 3″ presents all polonaise pieces including the A major Polonaise Fantasy op. 61 and the Grande Polonaise Brillante op. 22.

Mursky has become a Chopin specialist pulling the artist’s music out from the world of chamber-music, and honoring it on the modern stage . He breathes into “his” Chopin a special kind of poetry, noblesse and elegance paired with unique virtuosity. He plays Chopin much more vivid, more joyful and adds special vibrancy and energy than is customary.

Eugene Mursky believes that Sauter Pianos are the best choice for playing Chopin’s music because of their ethereal sound, power and breadth of color. The model of choice for the most recent recording was the Sauter Concert Grand 275.  His CDs are available on amazon.com. A New Jersey Dream Home…and its Piano
September 4th, 2007 by Sauter USA

Recently I had the chance to talk to one of our customers from New Jersey. He is not only a very influential real estate developer in New Jersey but also the owner of a beautiful Sauter Grand Piano. His mansion is adorned with a Sauter Vivace 6′9”.

Estate_Livingroom

The owner envisioned a house that was open to the landscape, a home that would not only feel warm and welcoming from the inside and the outside but also bring the outdoors in.

Estate Overview

The house’s design and orientation incorporate many corners and wide windows to take advantage of the 270-degree of natural views. There are no flat ceilings, instead angles, soffits, and niches lend a sculptural quality to the interiors. The house includes five fireplaces, three of which emanate from a large central chimney.

Natural cherry and maple woods, Tennessee crab orchard stone, and African slate in autumnal colors give the interiors modern warmth. The central piece of the living room is a Sauter Vivace 6′9”. Part house, part gallery, the contemporary design accomodates an extensive art collection and a growing family.
